This Thursday, October 24, the College of Arts and Sciences at Indiana University Bloomington will celebrate its 2024 alumni awards, which recognizes distinguished alumni for their exceptional accomplishments and impact around the world.

Among the award recipients are a C-suite executive with Target and a world-renowned neurologist

This Thursday, October 24, the College of Arts and Sciences at Indiana University Bloomington will celebrate its 2024 alumni awards, which recognizes distinguished alumni for their exceptional accomplishments and impact around the world.

The event, which will take place at the university’s Indiana Memorial Union, will feature a special panel discussion with the honorees hosted by the College’s Executive Dean Rick Van Kooten, providing an opportunity for the audience to hear firsthand about the award recipients’ insights into leadership, community service, and career development.

“This year’s honorees exemplify the very best of what it means to be a College of Arts and Sciences graduate,” said Van Kooten. “Their achievements reflect a deep commitment to leadership, service, and the impact that an education in the liberal arts and sciences can have on individuals and communities all over the globe.”

The awards celebration is open to the public, and all members of the IU and Bloomington communities are invited to attend. Read more and RSVP for the event here.

This year’s panelists are:

  • Gretchen L. Birbeck (B.A. ’90 Chemistry, Psychology): The Rykenboer Professor of Neurology at the University of Rochester who’s also spent decades establishing clinical care teams in Zambia.
  • Pat Shoulders (B.A. ’75, English): A distinguished attorney and former IU trustee who’s been a longtime champion of the Evansville community and the entire state of Indiana.
  • Laysha Ward (B.A. ’91, Afro-American Studies, Journalism): A C-suite executive with Target Corp. and author of the upcoming book Lead Like You Mean It: Lessons on Integrity and Purpose From the C-Suite.
  • Elyssa Campodonico-Barr (B.A. ’09, Political Science/Philosophy, Spanish): A program director at the Lilly Endowment and former CEO of Girls Inc. of Greater Indianapolis who’s dedicated her career to empowering young women.
