Indiana University Columbus recently introduced Austin Newberry in the new role of Student Success Coach.
“I’m really looking forward to meeting IU Columbus students and helping them be successful,” he said.
Newberry describes his role as center of a Venn diagram where academic advising, counseling and the Academic Resource Center intersect. He is especially focused on helping 21st Century Scholars, though he’s available to coach all students on time management, study skills, and identifying tools that can help them learn more effectively.
I can always be students’ first stop with any issues that are making it difficult for them to succeed at IU Columbus. If I can’t help right away, I always can point them in the right direction for more help and resources.I can always be students’ first stop with any issues that are making it difficult for them to succeed at IU Columbus. Newberry’s office is Room 156H. However, you may recognize him if you’ve recently been in The Landing. Since he started a few weeks ago, he’s been trying to visit CLC everyday for informal meet-and-greets with students.
He’s also available to speak in classes or meet with clubs and teams to share how he can help students be successful.
In addition, he’ll be part of orientation sessions for students coming to IU Columbus in Fall 2024.
Before joining IU Columbus, Austin served in many roles, including as a Lutheran pastor, a teacher, a college administrator, and a professional education coordinator at The Florida Bar and Florida Supreme Court.
