Professor Brian Steensland Awarded $1.2 Million Grant from Lilly Endowment

The IU School of Liberal Arts and IU Indianapolis just announced that Professor Brian Steensland, who serves as Chair of the Sociology Department, was awarded a $1.2 million grant from Lilly Endowment, Inc. in order to study “the hopes, challenges, and experiences of parents in the Episcopal Diocese of Indianapolis in passing on their religious faith to their children.”

The research in this grant is supported through Lilly Endowment’s Christian Parenting and Caregiving Initiative and is a collaborative effort between researchers in the Center for the Study of Religion and American Culture at IU Indianapolis and the Episcopal Diocese of Indianapolis. Dr. Steensland will assemble and lead the research team as they explore parents’ experiences raising children within their faith tradition.
