Expert Bio
Clinical professor of information systems Bipin Prabhakar is chair of Information Systems Graduate Programs and the Plus Kelley program and holds the Fettig/Whirlpool Fellowship at the Indiana University Kelley School of Business. In these roles he leads one of the most highly regarded Master of Science in Information Systems degree programs in the country as well as the school’s initiative to provide a pathway for arts, humanities and sciences students to access Kelley’s specialized master’s programs. Prabhakar’s research interests are in the areas of technology adoption and the evolution of IS job skills.
He was awarded the Dr. James E. Mumford Excellence in Extraordinary Teaching Award by IU in May 2021. Prabhakar’s teaching expertise is in the areas of enterprise systems, IT architecture, cloud computing and information systems security. He teaches in the M.S. in Information Systems Program Core, the MSIS concentration in Digital Enterprise Systems, Kelley Direct MBA and M.S. programs and Kelley Executive programs.
Before joining the Kelley School in 2008, Prabhakar had been on the faculty of the University of Cincinnati since 1997, where he served as the academic director for the MSIS program. He also served as the director of information technology with responsibility for all technology-related aspects for the College of Business from 2002 to 2007.
He was also designated as a SAP Fellow in Enterprise Systems at the University of Cincinnati from 2004 to 2008. In this role, he led the university’s SAP initiative, which was funded by a $675,000 grant from SAP America, leading the development of faculty expertise in ERP systems and implementing a SAP enterprise systems lab. He also won several teaching awards while at the University of Cincinnati. Prabhakar was awarded the Microsoft ACE Security fellowship in 2005.
He is a co-author of the book “Business Process Configuration with SAP ERP” and the forthcoming book “Business Process Configuration with SAP S/4 HANA.” He has contributed a chapter to the book “Readings on ERP Systems.” He also served as chair of the SAP University Alliances Program North American Academic board from 2014 to 2019.
Prabhakar has an undergraduate degree in electrical engineering and master’s and doctoral degrees in information systems. He has also attained the CISSP certification and is an Amazon AWS Academy accredited instructor.
