On May 2, 2023, the IU School of Social Work honored graduating BSW students on the Fort Wayne campus with a recognition reception and awards presentation.
“We celebrated our second IU Fort Wayne BSW class, affectionately named Double Good Trouble. This group is double the size of our first class last year,” said Aisha Smiley, BSW Program Director, IU School of Social Work, Fort Wayne campus. “They are highly supportive of one another through life and professional challenges while activating their voices throughout the community and on campus. I have challenged them to be aware of their position and privilege in the world. Understanding the same does not always exist for others, including their peers. I have challenged them to call out inequities and systemic issues while remembering their role as social workers to serve in the lives of others is in itself a privilege, a ‘get to’, not a ‘have to’.”
