Men of Action: IU Southeast Men’s Conference Takes Aim at Violence Prevention

Faculty Campus Life Students Oct 21, 2024

This year’s Men’s Conference at Indiana University Southeast promises to bring together men across the campus to discuss critical issues such as domestic violence, sexual assault, and mental health while promoting healthier, more empathetic forms of masculinity. The event, being held on November 1st, 2024, aims to reshape how men perceive themselves and their roles in society. The event is sponsored by a grant to reduce sexual violence on campus by the Office on Violence Against Women.

“After hearing a loved one’s story of survival and feeling powerless to help, I made a promise,” said committee president Bryce Kendall. “I knew the only way to enact real change was to reach out to men – who, though often ridiculed for expressing vulnerability, hold the power to make lasting positive impacts in their communities.”

The 2024 Men’s Conference is the latest in an ongoing effort to provide young men the tools they need to lead healthier careers, relationships, and lives.

“Empathy and Respect are not weaknesses; they’re one of the greatest strengths a man can possess,” says Dr. Seuth Chaleunphonh, grant project supervisor for the Office of Violence Against Women. “By helping men grow in these areas, we are also building safer, healthier environments for women and everyone around them.”

Building Bridges, Not Walls

Throughout the day, attendees will participate in interactive workshops and hear from leading experts on mental health, relationships, and personal growth. The event will feature talks from local leaders, panel discussions, and real-life stories of resilience. Key sessions, like “Mind/Body Connection,” will highlight the importance of taking care of both mental and physical well-being in building a fulfilling life.

The conference will run from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with opportunities for open dialogue, networking, reflection, book giveaways, and scholarship drawings. With the support of campus leaders, including IU Southeast Athletics and various student groups, this conference is a major step forward in shaping the future for young men.

How to Attend

The event is open to all men on campus, and students, faculty, and staff are highly encouraged to attend. Registration is now open via the IU Southeast event portal and Grenadier Central, and all attendees will have the chance to engage with leading voices in the field of men’s health, violence prevention, and social responsibility.

Together, we are changing the narrative, one conversation at a time.
