We have highlighted a few of our veterans and service members in the “Spotlight” to the right. This includes Buzz Clore, Director of IT Support Services, who retired from the Army with 21 years of service and was stationed in Fort Campbell, Kentucky, as well as South Korea, Honduras and Iraq. “The Army showed me that if I applied myself, no matter the task at hand, I could achieve almost anything,” he said.
Before enlisting, Clore says he was an average student, but he earned nearly all A’s completing his associate degree, bachelor’s degree and finally his MBA, which he attributes to the resiliency and determination he gained in the service. He says that mindset has continued to benefit him.
“At IU Columbus, I know I am able to accomplish any task that is put before me, and if I am not able to, I know that I have a team on the Columbus campus, the other regional campuses, as well as Indy and Bloomington that are willing to help,” Clore added.
To better serve all those who served, IU Columbus provides many resources to help with the transition from military to college, as well as financial aid information and a dedicated Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor, Tina Burgess, who is on campus once a week.
She is available to help with:
- Chapter 31 (Veterans Readiness and Employment Program)
- Chapter 33 Post-9/11 G.I.Bill Benefits
- Indiana State Benefit-Child of a Disabled Veteran (CV0)
- Federal VA Dependents of Education Assistance (DEA)- G.I. Bill Chapter 35
