Student Achievement Nov 20, 2023

Is your drink of choice influenced by your relationship with your grandfather? Is there a way to predict if you’ll believe in a conspiracy theory? Did the parenting style used by your mother impact your current relationship with her?

IU Columbus students will answer these questions and more during the fall semester Psychology Capstone Presentations on Nov. 29, 9:30 to 11 a.m., along Main Street in the CLC.

Seven psychology students will share their research and findings:

  • Bre Dougherty, Life Experiences and Transitional Outcomes
  • Cyn Guzman, Social Preferences and Mental Health
  • Sara Law, Personality and Drink Preferences
  • Natalie Medsker, Individual Differences and Media Consumption
  • Chayton Rexroat, Family Relations and Well-being
  • Jarrett Springhorn, Religiosity and Fear and Death
  • Morgan Stanley, Parenting Styles and Parent-child Relationships

Kimdy Le, associate professor of psychology, explained that the capstone students’ projects are the culmination of a year-long process where each student developed the hypotheses, designed the methodology, chose their measures, collected data, and analyzed their data.

These projects represent original work that showcase these students’ talents, their broad range of interests, countless hours of work and reflection, and persistence in bringing their ideas to fruition.

He encourages AirPark Campus faculty, staff, and students to stop by the event and learn about the presenters’ projects.

He added that he’s appreciative of the support from the IU Columbus Office of Student Research for these capstone presentations.
