IU Columbus faculty, staff and students are invited to join a roundtable discussion of generative AI and large language models, “Our Collective Learning from Co-Existence with Generative AI,” on Dec. 8, 11-11:45 a.m., in LC 1618 (inside the library). This concludes a three-part series led by Kevin Jones, Ed.D., Associate Professor of Management.
We are in a transformative time. Generative AI is not a fad, and it’s not going away.
Kevin Jones, Ed.D., Associate Professor of Management
During the first AI session in October, a panel of IU Columbus students discussed generative AI, its applications and impacts. The panel featured insights from Tristian Wirth, Conner Emrich, Ben Fricke and Angie Guzman Presenda.
The second session, Nov. 10, focused on AI prompts. To get better results from prompts, Jones suggested being very descriptive, doing comparative analysis using multiple tools, and specifying the type of information you do and don’t want. Jones also recommends sharing your prompt-writing successes and difficulties with others, and even using generative AI tools to help write more effective prompts. Most importantly, he suggests fact-checking any information that comes from using generative AI.
“Perfecting AI prompting is an art, not a science. However, I am confident we will develop proficiencies for using this tool,” Jones said.
The final session of the series asks participants to share their experiences, questions, and concerns about generative AI, as we mark ChatGPT’s one-year birthday. Topics will include:
- The current reality of AI
- Misinformation about AI
- AI’s present and future effects
- Any questions and/or concerns
- Personal experiences with generative AI, especially in the classroom
No registration is required. If you have questions about the Dec. 8 session or would like to suggest future topics for educational panels and presentations (AI-related or not), contact Marsha VanNahmen.
