Cybersecurity major Sarah O’Farril advances her technology experience at IU Indianapolis

Sarah O’Farril finds tech opportunities through her on-campus job and student organizations.

Picking where I was going to spend my next four years was not easy. I took a lot into consideration, from finances, to quality of education, to location — it was all important to me. I ultimately landed on IU Indianapolis for a few reasons:

  1. First and foremost was their abundance of majors, which included Cybersecurity, my dream major. This has allowed me to focus on a specialty in technology that I was most passionate about.
  2. Next was the Honors College and their scholarship opportunities, allowing college to be more affordable for me.
  3. Finally, the last of the main reasons was due to the urban landscape. I had always wanted to go to school in a city, so Indianapolis was perfect for me. IU Indianapolis offers a commitment to experiential learning, showing a belief that education should not be confined to textbooks. This campus offers a dynamic environment where classrooms are not confined to four walls, but extend into the city being your campus.

In terms of student organizations here on campus, I am a part of the Cybersecurity Club, Women in Technology Club, and Academics for Civic Engagement. I also just got an on-campus job with UITS. I will be an IT and Computer Support Technician, a position I am thrilled to start and one that will allow me to get my feet further into the technology world.

In the end, choosing IU Indianapolis was not just about picking a university, it was about choosing where to spend a transformative journey that would not only shape my academic and career future, but also my character and make a difference in the world.
