2024 Regatta: Guide to celebrating IU Indianapolis’s 16th annual canoe race

The campus community, families and downtown Indianapolis are invited to take part in one of the university’s most exciting traditions. Canoe racers and spectators will enjoy live performances, festival rides, the Dog Costume Contest and food trucks.

Get ready to make a splash! IU Indianapolis is hosting its 16 th annual canoe race and homecoming event on September 28. Regatta welcomes the entire IU Indianapolis campus, families and city of Indianapolis to take part in this legendary tradition. Enjoy a full day of festivities while cheering on teams of students, faculty, staff and alumni as they race down the downtown canal.  

In this guide, we’ll tell you everything you need to know to make the most out of this year’s Regatta events and celebrations.

Regatta Week 

Over the years, Regatta has evolved into a weeklong extravaganza of fun and school spirit. During Regatta Week, our student-led Regatta Steering Committee also puts on a series of events that ramp up excitement leading up to the main event. Don’t miss out on these Regatta Week activities:

Families at Regatta 

There are plenty of ways for families to get involved in the   Regatta festivities . Get your game face on and sign up to take part in this year’s Family Frenzy — a  series of six Minute-to-Win-It style games that invites students and their families to engage in fun, friendly competition. Family Frenzy events take place on the Regatta stage throughout the day and there’s no cost to participate !

Meet the 2024 Regatta Royalty Court 

Congratulations to our eight students — Kamya Williams, Alexa Pineda Maliano, Evneki Crenshaw, Rebecca Charbonneau, Luke Lonneman, Catie Sprunger, Kylie Heagy, and Hang Doan — who were chosen to be part of the 2024 Regatta Royalty Court.  

These students will serve as IU Indianapolis ambassadors, participate in Fall Regatta Week events and judge the Dog Costume Contest. Make sure to stick around for the Regatta Royalty crowning at the closing ceremony!

Q: Where will the stage and restrooms be?  
A: We’ve got you covered! See below for a map of where everything is located on race day.  

Q: Where can I park?  
A: Free parking is available in Lot 85 and Lot 86, as well as any other surface lot at IU Indianapolis. See other options on where to park around campus.

Q: What type of food will be at the festival?  
A: This year’s lineup of food trucks includes: 3 Marias Mex Food Truck, Coca-Cola Slushie Truck, Bearded Burger, Mr. & Mrs. Hot Dog Stand, Later Taters, Ben’s Soft Pretzels, Ohanalulu and Fruit Tree Coffee. 

Q: Is the event free?  
A: Yes! Attending is free, and the event is open to everyone at IU Indianapolis and the Indy community. Food is available for purchase.
