The Division of Student Affairs’ Marketing and Communications (SAMC) team relies on talented student employees to create eye-catching and professional-level marketing materials and videos to engage with our students. To aid in their growth and provide experiences beyond their internships, SAMC looks for opportunities outside of the division to showcase student work.
In the fall, each student’s best project was submitted to the Association of College Unions International’s (ACUI) Steal this Idea competition. This annual marketing and graphic design competition invites students from around the world to submit their projects, which span a variety of categories. ACUI received over 300 submissions, with two of SAMC’s students placing for their work.
Canaan Sellers
Video and Animation Category, 3 rd place
Each year, our student videographer works with the Regatta executive board to create an event trailer highlighting all of Regatta’s festivities. The 2024 fall video was a spoof on Nicole Kidman’s well-known AMC commercial. Canaan worked closely with the Regatta students to put their own IU Indy spin on the original concept, with cinematic effects that showcased Canaan’s video skills and passion for this project.
Mary Raikos
Brochure and Booklet category, honorable mention
This booklet was created for the Housing and Residence Life (HRL) team so staff members had a compact resource they could refer to when reflecting on HRL’s strategic priorities. Mary’s goal was to create a visually engaging piece with movement.
Materials created for our internal audiences can be challenging, especially when the content is more informational. Mary went above and beyond to put together a booklet that coincided with HRL’s current look and feel, while also adding expressive design elements for a pop of fun.
Whether they’re creating booklets, filming, taking photos, or developing social media content, student employees are fundamental in servicing the division; and we celebrate that their work is also being recognized nationwide.
