Campus Recreation unveils new equipment and opportunities to get active this summer

See fitness-focused programming and services that are also open to staff!

Jul 8, 2025

Campus Recreation (CREC) has several new offerings for students, faculty and staff looking to stay active this summer and beyond.

Students asked for more strength training equipment, and the CREC team delivered. Once they saw a need for more weight-focused machinery over cardio, CREC got to work upgrading equipment in The Jag — IU Indy’s fitness facility located on the lower level of the Campus Center.

All new equipment was set up in May and is ready for use:

  • IU-branded squat racks
  • A deadlift platform
  • A leg extension machine
  • An angled leg press machine
  • A leg curl machine
  • A hack squat machine

Need accountability buddies for your workout? Or enjoy having an instructor lead you through a routine? CREC recently doubled its group fitness class offerings and will be adding even more classes in the fall. Zumba and yoga classes continue throughout the summer with new floor pilates classes now available on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Everyone in the IU Indy community is welcome to opt in to the $30 summer rec fee to access The Jag and group fitness classes.

Pickleball is on the rise with courts and leagues popping up all over Indy. To meet this growing interest in the sport, CREC now offers students the opportunity to play through intramurals.

This summer, they also launched the first-ever open staff pickleball. From 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, staff are encouraged to head out to The CROF at Lockefield Green for a free drop-in session. No sign-ups, experience or equipment is needed. These sessions will run until July 31.
